NARRATIVE

UNIT 1 WAS EASTBOUND ON HIGHWAY 163 AT THE MARION COUNTY/JASPER COUNTY LINE WHEN THE DRIVER OF UNIT 1 LOST CONTROL. UNIT 1 ENTERED THE SOUTH DITCH STRIKING A SPEED LIMIT SIGN. THE SPEED LIMIT SIGN BROKE IN HALF CAUSING HEAVY DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END AND WINDSHIELD OF UNIT 1. THE DRIVER OF UNIT 1 DID NOT STOP AFTER THE COLLISION AND CONTINUED EASTBOUND ON HIGHWAY 163. AFTER SEVERAL 911 CALLS FROM CONCERNED MOTORISTS, THE IOWA STATE PATROL AND PELLA POLICE DEPARTMENT WERE ABLE TO STOP UNIT 1 NEAR PELLA. THE DRIVER OF UNIT 1 WAS UNINJURED AND PLACED UNDER ARREST FOR OPERATING WHILE INTOXICATED.
