NARRATIVE

UNIT 1 WAS NORTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE 35 AT THE 141.40 MILE-MARKER. UNIT 2 WAS SOUTHBOUND ON I-35 NORTH OF THE 141.5 MILE-MARKER. THE DRIVER OF UNIT 1; LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE ON SLUSH COVERED ROADWAY, LEFT THE ROADWAY TO THE LEFT, CROSSED THROUGH THE MEDIAN, ENTERED UNIT 2'S LANE OF TRAVEL, AND STRUCK UNIT 2 ALMOST HEAD ON. BOTH VEHICLES HAD FIRES IGNITED UNDER THE HOOD. SEATBELT USAGE IN CONJUNCTION WITH AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT DECREASED SERIOUS INJURY AND PREVENTED DEATH.
