| NARRATIVE |
VEHICLE #1 AND VEHICLE #2 WERE BOTH TRAVELING WESTBOUND (LEFT LANE) ON I-80 WEST NEAR THE 161 MM OF JASPER COUNTY, IOWA. VEHICLE #1 (SEMI TRACTOR/TANKER) WAS DIRECTLY AHEAD OF VEHICLE #2 (PASSENGER TRUCK). VEHICLE #3 WAS A SEMI TRACTOR/TRAILER TRAVELING EAST ON I-80 EAST. VEHICLE #3 MADE A LANE CHANGE FROM THE RIGHT LANE TO THE LEFT LANE OF TRAVEL AND LOST CONTROL OF HIS SEMI TRACTOR/TRAILER. VEHICLE #3 ENTERED INTO THE MEDIAN AND ACTUALLY CAME UP ONTO THE TRAVELED PORTION OF I-80 WEST LEFT LANE. THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE #3 (TRACTOR) IMPACTED WITH THE LEFT SIDE, REAR BUMPER AREA OF VEHICLE #1'S TRAILER IN THE LEFT LANE OF I-80 WEST. AFTER THE COLLISION, VEHICLE #3 CAME TO FINAL REST IN THE MEDIAN FACING SOUTHWESTERLY AND VEHICLE #1 WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MOVE TO THE NORTH SHOULDER (I-80 WEST) AND STOP. VEHICLE #2 TOOK EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID THE COLLISION WITH VEHICLE #3 AND SERVED TO THE RIGHT. VEHICLE #2 CAME TO REST IN THE NORTH DITCH AREA FACING WEST. VEHICLE #2 DID NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH EITHER VEHICLE #1 OR VEHICLE #3; HOWEVER, VEHICLE #2 DID SUSTAIN DAMAGE. VEHICLE #2 STRUCK A MILE POST MARKER IN THE NORTH DITCH AREA WITH THE RIGHT SIDE OF HIS VEHICLE (SIDE MIRROR AREA). NO ONE IN THE COLLISION WAS INJURED AND VEHICLE #2 AND VEHICLE #3 NEEDED A TOW SERVICE TO REMOVE THEM (AFTER CONDITIONS IMPROVED). THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE #3 WAS CITED FOR FAILURE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL .THE ROADWAY CONDITIONS WERE 50-100% ICE COVERED. |
