NARRATIVE

VEHICLE #1 AND VEHICLE #2 WERE BOTH TRAVELING WEST ON I-80 WEST NEAR THE #139 MM IN POLK COUNTY, IOWA. VEHICLE #1 WAS IN THE FAR LEFT (SOUTH) LANE OF TRAVEL. VEHICLE #2 WAS IN THE CENTER LANE OF TRAVEL SLIGHTLY AHEAD OF VEHICLE #1 AND ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES FROM THE CENTER LANE TO THE LEFT (SOUTH) LANE. ALTHOUGH VEHICLE #1 ATTEMPTED TO AVOID THE COLLISION, VEHICLE #2 FAILED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY AND STRUCK VEHICLE #1. THE LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE #2 (DRIVER'S DOOR AREA) IMPACTED THE FRONT, RIGHT CORNER OF VEHICLE #1. AFTER THE COLLISION, VEHICLE #1 LOST CONTROL AND SPUN COUNTER-CLOCKWISE AND IMPACTED THE CONCRETE MEDIAN BARRIER ON THE FRONT, LEFT CORNER. VEHICLE #1 CAME TO FINAL REST FACING SOUTHWESTERLY AGAINST THE CONCRETE BARRIER. VEHICLE #2 DID NOT STOP AFTER THE COLLISION AND CONTINUED WEST ON I-80. THE DESCRIPTION OF VEHICLE #2 WAS A MAROON CHEVY TRAILBLAZER TYPE VEHICLE WHICH SHOULD HAVE DAMAGE TO THE LEFT SIDE NEAR THE DRIVER'S DOOR AREA. VEHICLE #2 MOST LIKELY HAS SILVER PAINT TRANSFER FROM VEHICLE #1. VEHICLE #1 HAD MAROON PAINT TRANSFER ON THE FRONT, RIGHT CORNER OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE INITIAL IMPACT. AT THE TIME OF THIS REPORT, VEHICLE #2 HAS NOT BEEN LOCATED.
