NARRATIVE

UNIT #1 WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON SOUTHEAST 3RD STREET APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION WITH EAST SOUTH STREET IN PANORA, IOWA. AS UNIT #1 APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION THE DRIVER OF UNIT #1 NOTICED A BOY ON A BICYCLE ON THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION THAT WAS STOPPED ON THE CORNER AND ALSO A MAN ON THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION THAT APPEARED TO BE YELLING. AT THIS SAME TIME THERE WAS A BICYCLE THAT WAS TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON EAST SOUTH STREET COMING DOWN THE HILL TOWARD SOUTHEAST 3RD STREET. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES THE TEN YEAR OLD BOY ON THE BICYCLE DID NOT STOP AT THE STOP SIGN THAT WAS POSTED AT THAT INTERSECTION. THE DRIVER OF UNIT #1 DID NOT SEE THE BOY ON THE BICYCLE, HE ONLY FELT THE IMPACT AND SAW THE BIKE IN FRONT OF HIS CAR. THE DRIVER OF UNIT #1 STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND WENT OVER TO CHECK ON THE BOY AND CALL 911. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO ANY PARTIES OF UNIT #1 AND THE BOY SUSTAINED A HEAD AND LEG INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO BLANK CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN DES MOINES. THE BOY ON THE BICYCLE WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET.
