NARRATIVE

UNIT #1 WAS TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON INTERSTATE 80. UNIT #1 WAS A GMC YUKON PULLING A 24 FOOT CAMPER. AT APPROXIMATELY THE 96.2 MILE MARKER THE DRIVER OF UNIT #1 SAW A PIECE OF DEBRIS IN THE LEFT LANE. THE DRIVER OF UNIT #1 PANIC SWERVED TO TRY TO MISS THE ROAD DEBRIS ( TAIL LIGHT LENS) AND LOST CONTROL. UNIT #1 WENT OUT OF CONTROL, FISH TAILED, ROLLED OVER AND STRUCK THE CABLE AND CEMENT BARRIER IN THE SOUTH DITCH. UNIT #1CAME TO REST ON ITS PASSENGER SIDE IN THE RIGHT LANE OF INTERSTATE 80 AND THE CAMPER STAYED ATTACHED AND CAME TO REST ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE CEMENT BARRIERS. THE DRIVER WAS AIR LIFTED TO MERCY HOSPITAL IN DES MOINES AND BOTH PASSENGERS WERE TRANSPORTED THERE BY GROUND.
